A message from our President

16 December 2022

Dear DAS Members:
Welcome back, after the long COVID-induced hiatus. Next year, members of the Denver Academy of Surgery will celebrate our 75th anniversary. Established in 1948, the DAS is Colorado’s oldest surgical society. For seventy-five years, DAS has provided a common ground for fellowship among community and academic surgeons alike. Through the years, we’ve hosted many of the most revered leaders in American surgery with educational programs in the surgical sciences and presentations on a broad variety of other topics of general interest.
In November, we resumed the program schedule with a fascinating spouse’s meeting presentation from Dr. Ka Chun Yu, Astrophysicist and Curator of Space Science at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. Proposals for 2023 topics include mass shootings and disaster response, a resident abstract competition for all the Colorado training programs, and a dynamic non-surgical speaker for the seventy-fifth anniversary spouse’s meeting in the fall. If you have other suggestions for topics or speakers, feel free contact me or one of the other executive council members.
The life blood of our organization is its members. The gathering of surgeons throughout the region fosters a sense of community and promotes a collegial atmosphere for education and celebration. Even in our busy practices, I urge each of you to attend as many DAS meetings as you can and challenge you to bring one or more of your surgical colleagues/partners.
Respectfully yours,
Frederick “Fritz” Karrer
